Derek Hatchett came home from his military service in Panama a changed man. However, Derek's life is about to undergo an upheaval that will make him long for the mundane days as a repo man. When Derek receives a call from a friendly detective to identify a body, he has no idea that he is about to be swept up into a vortex of criminal intrigue involving robbery, murder, and white supremacy groups. Cops believe he murdered an associate, and thugs believe he has knowledge of a stolen and valuable artifact. With his back against the wall, Derek will need as many resources as he can find to fight a war on the home front against murderous militants in Arkansas while keeping overzealous law enforcement at bay.

When Derek is introduced, he solidifies himself as a character of ironclad will, whether he's interacting with a pugilistic delinquent borrower or engaging in verbal jousting with a cantankerous detective. This is a narrative that blends mystery, action, and compelling drama as Derek is forced to fight an enemy that he has never faced before. The tone is established from the outset as an attempt to reclaim property turns violent, yet there is more than enough humor and pathos to buttress the adrenaline-soaked moments. As excellent a protagonist as Derek is, the book's appeal is buoyed by the friends and adversaries who enter his orbit, whether it be a fellow soldier he can rely on, a caring nurse/romantic interest, or the plotting leader of the militia.
