Poet Hagen writes engagingly in praise of Donald Trump, the eponymous “DT,” whose smiling, confident face appears on her book’s cover. This work comprises four poetic portions: “Poetry for God,” “Poetry of Politics,” “Poetry Especially for the President,” and “Poetry, Poetry, and More Poetry.” In the first, she shares her Christian faith, combining biblical accounts and her human perspective, such as thoughts while “sitting under a hair dryer at the hair dresser,” ruminating over how bravely Jesus prayed for those who condemned him.
The second section pertains to DT as falsely accused by those who should have praised his successes on behalf of his country; Hagen boldly declares, “I want to be a faithful and true supporter of you!” Similar sentiments are demonstrated in the third section, such as allowing a reindeer and Santa Claus to support Trump. In the final portion, Hagen writes of her possible need for surgeries, averring that “writing always sustains me!” while again imparting in subtle ways her allegiance to her work’s central figure, intermixed with a variety of amusing, poignant, and pertinent life events.
Hagen, who has several poetic collections to her credit, has composed previous works praising MJ (Michael Jackson) and BC (Bill Cosby). Her poetry is clear, deft, and succinct, with a well-structured format of internal rhyme. Of the forty-nine works offered here, some present odes to DT and others the humor of simple life situations. Still others, in whole or in part, express Hagen’s general wish to remain strong and unwavering in her opinions and ambitions, encouraging others to do likewise. All are accompanied by relevant color photographs. Hagen’s poetic gifts are evident on every page, and her central subject matter will attract like-minded readers and perhaps convince others of the rational basis for her political and spiritual sentiments.
