The Art of Dixie

"Kelly stepped into the night air, still saturated with marijuana, cow patties, and the occasional waft from the port-o-lets, so brown you could almost see it."

This intelligent and entertaining tale combines artificial intelligence, time travel, and going to Woodstock with friendship, love, the Vietnam War, fun, and pain. It begins in the year 2101 and follows Baezy, a great, great, great-granddaughter of Kelly who went to Woodstock in 1969. The twenty-second century is filled with great advances in science and AI. Baezy (aka Sarah but nicknamed after Joan Baez) determines to take a journey into the past. She has the time of her life with new experiences and new people, uncovering surprises she'd never imagined with unintended consequences.

Engaging, fascinating, and a fun read, this book is perfect for those who enjoy science fiction but also for those who want an understanding of the history of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, President Nixon, the draft system, and Woodstock. The nomenclature is that of the 1960s, which adds to the setting, as does the description of the actual event of Woodstock and what it was like to be there, especially with the music and the bands, the drugs, the rain, and the focus on peace and love. The narrative also looks at the positives and negatives of AI and the future and how advancements may not always be advancements in culture and science. It also nicely examines types of families, love and forgiveness, and how people can live together in harmony.
