Breaking Through the Clouds
by Marlene Burling
URLink Print and Media

"All we had was each other, and the more we did together the more love we had for each other."

Burling shares her personal family stories and entwines them with passages from the King James Bible. Burling’s husband, Autry , was a pastor, and she worked closely with him during his ministry work. They were married in 1962.

Burling not only shares about their years of ministry work, but she also shares how she was a caregiver to her parents and in-laws, her unbreakable bond with her grandson who was born with Down syndrome, her odd jobs, such as working as a substitute mail carrier to help with bills, and Autry ’s many years of struggling with heart-related medical issues. Autry , from 1993 to 2013, had two open heart surgeries and eighteen stents put in. He miraculously lived for twenty years, and this was after he was told by a doctor in 1993 that he would only make it for ten years more. After each personal story, Burling has a section with two Bible passages and a prayer. There is a moral offered for each situation.

Many readers will be able to relate to Burling’s trials and tribulations and find her words quite inspiring. She not only recounts these stories but gives her readers religious advice on how to make it through the storms of life. Another thing that makes this book stand out is how Burling candidly shares her past diary entries. These passages give an even closer look at her family and the problems that were happening at the time. Burling explains that even in the worst kind of situation, God is in control and will help you in the end. Those who are looking for a new read in the inspirational nonfiction genre will find Burling’s book to be more than adequate.
