Bow Wow is a friendly little dog who lives with his family in a peaceful neighborhood. He often gets lonely when the parents leave for work and the children—Carisa and Alan—leave for school. He admires the freedom enjoyed by animals such as squirrels, mice, and a red cardinal, but being stuck at home, he tends to hide under beds and pout. All that changes one day when a delicious fragrance draws him to an open window, and Bow Wow falls outdoors. He goes on an adventure that includes a trip through town and into the park.
