"You, my love, are one of a kind. Like a star in the sky, you’re a unique design."

Young London has plans to celebrate her birthday with a costume party. Her friends are just as excited for the occasion, and all of them seem to know exactly what they want to wear. They gush about dressing up as superheroes, princesses, magicians, and soldiers in uniforms. But London is at a loss. She is caught between going as something that matches her friends’ ideas or trying for something wild and unique. Then, her mother stresses that London’s costume can highlight her own interests and that her brilliance will shine through whatever she chooses to wear. This gives her the idea to go as an astronaut, inspired by a love of technology and science. The party is a huge success, and London even leads her friends in a small parade along her street to the delight of the neighbors.

It is wonderful when a story can teach children to embrace their individuality in refreshing or clever ways. That is exactly the case in this tale of a young girl searching for the right costume to wear for her party, and it serves as a good model for the audience of young readers as well. They get to see costumes as opportunities to explore their identities or what they want to become in the future. They are sure to enjoy the wholesome advice given by London’s mother, who is so wise and supportive of her daughter. And they will love the bright and colorful illustrations found throughout the book, which skillfully draw them further into the latest in London’s adventures. This story would make a perfect gift for children on or around their birthdays and even for Halloween with its ideas about costumes. Overall, this is a fun and beautiful read for kids everywhere.
