"Mom, I realized when people are kind, their true, beautiful colors shine."

Caroline is a sweet little girl whose best friend and confidant is her cow, Miss Lilly. When a severe storm brings high winds, terrifying lightning, and heavy rain, Caroline fears for Miss Lilly’s safety alone in the pasture exposed to the horrible weather. Following her mother’s sage advice, Caroline sends up prayers requesting protection for Miss Lilly and thanking God for blessing the crops with rain. The storm subsides, leaving behind a rainbow that bathes Miss Lilly in its glory and turns her hide all the beautiful colors of the rainbow. But when Caroline and her mother go to the pasture to investigate, they discover Miss Lilly is on the loose. A frantic Caroline enlists her mother’s help to find her missing friend. They embark on a journey that takes them to several neighboring farms. As the neighbors relate their encounters with Miss Lilly, Caroline realizes that Miss Lilly has sprinkled all the neighbors who offered her help and showed her kindness with the newfound beautiful rainbow of colors in her hide.

Children’s shop owner and artist Wetherington delivers a fanciful but impactful tale based on the cow featured in her award-winning oil painting. Wetherington possesses a magical creativity that is on full display in this delightful, faith-based children’s book. She uses imagery and the innocence of childlike wonder to deliver meaningful lessons on the power of prayer, giving thanks even in the midst of the storm, and showing kindness to those in need. The story also offers an insightful example of effective parenting as Caroline’s mother consistently uses patience and wisdom to guide her daughter’s faith journey. Readers both young and young at heart will benefit from Miss Lilly’s message “that when you love and care for those around you, only then will your true colors shine.”
