Discovering One's Purpose
by Dr. James A. Gordon
PageTurner Press and Media

"Purpose is what you desire to be and have not yet become; it is all you intended to do but have not yet done."

Writer Gordon shares with readers the meaning and realization of purpose, encouraging them to seek and accomplish it in their own lives as he has learned to do. With candid and emotive memories of his life’s struggles and examples from Christian scripture, he effectively demonstrates that purpose can and will transform lives. Those who accept their individual purpose will face challenges and setbacks with God’s oversight and care. The beginning of the search for purpose is the understanding that God created each one for a reason. Many honored biblical heroes and heroines initially seemed unlikely to reach any great spiritual status, but their relationship with God helped to shape their destinies.

Gordon experienced an upbringing of harsh toil and deprivation, fortunate not to fall into the patterns of sin that affected many in similar circumstances. He was often hungry, hopeless, frail, and weak until, in 1982, he answered an altar call and gave his life to God, ultimately becoming a missionary and preacher. He believes that even those in the worst of circumstances can have this same revelation, uplift, and sense of new, relentless purpose.

Gordon holds numerous academic degrees and is the founder and chancellor of Macedonia International University. As in the case of so many biblical figures, his many successes might not have been expected from his early destitution. Thus, he can serve as an inspiring example to his readers while continually reminding them, with quotations and examples from the Holy Bible, that one’s purpose comes from God, requires change and courage, and will include many, often changing, challenges and victories. Gordon’s book can provide excellent material for group and individual study for those seeking deeper meaning in life and needing inner and outer guidance toward that essential goal.
