When scientists in China make a major advance in quantum computing using a satellite, the United States realizes it must do better. A team of top scientists is assembled to work with the National Security Agency. The group is designed to fast-track quantum computing in the US. The scientists realize that a submarine would be of great use to their work, so LT. Matt Westin from the USS Florida is assigned to be the liaison for the submarine. In addition, he is joined by an Air Force pilot and technology expert, Major Constance Brooks. As the work unfolds, it is learned that someone may be leaking information directly to a top official in China. That same official is linked to numerous bank hacks on American citizens. Additionally, the United States realizes that to slow the Chinese, they may need to turn to drastic measures. Theft and kidnapping are both on the table.
Frank writes an engaging story with likable characters. The narrative moves forward at a good pace, and there is plenty of adventure to keep the readers engaged. This adventure is more in tune with intelligence activity and technological warfare than it is with troop combat. Frank’s knowledge and research in the field of quantum computing are on display as he explains the terms and importance simply and without a lengthy technical essay. There are a few grammatical errors and a couple of content missteps, but overall the writing is smooth. Readers who like military technological thrillers should enjoy this book, especially those who aren’t interested in the more violent aspects of many such titles.
