"You're going to have to realize that you haven't failed. It takes two people for a marriage to work."

Nick Jordan is a fifty-year-old plastic surgeon living in New Orleans who is navigating a significant transition in his life following the departure of his wife, who filed for divorce after being unfaithful during their marriage. An email from his colleague, dermatologist Fiona Espinoza, points out that he has inadvertently sent her his dating profile from Match.com. Initially taken aback, Nick quickly recalls signing up for the site and realizes that, during a drunken night, he mistakenly shared his profile with his entire address book, including his patients and his ex-wife, Elizabeth. While this oversight is embarrassing, it motivates Nick to embrace the opportunity to reconstruct his life as a single man and confidently re-enter the dating scene.

In his novel, Godin thoughtfully explores the complexities of life following a painful divorce through the character of Nick. He skillfully guides readers on Nick's journey as he navigates his new reality. The author effectively highlights relatable experiences, such as the apprehension associated with meeting new people for dates, which allows readers to connect with Nick's emotions. While these situations can undoubtedly induce anxiety, Godin's incorporation of comedic elements serves to lighten the mood, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the narrative. Additionally, the dialogue is crafted to be subtle, witty, and engaging, contributing to a dynamic reading experience. Each character is brought to life with a unique voice, which adds depth and individuality. This approach enables readers to gain a clearer understanding of the characters' personalities, enriching their engagement with the story. Overall, Godin's techniques foster a relatable and enjoyable reading experience that resonates with the audience.
