With another entry in her series of mysteries featuring Kira Logan, Andrew has her protagonist looking forward to a relaxing summer teaching a short class on outdoor painting in a picturesque locale. After an initial meet-and-greet with her students, the oldest student returns to class and tells her one of the young men is trouble and should be kicked out immediately. He has a sordid past for which he served time. Kira tells the woman that she is willing to give everyone a chance and has no reason to consider asking anyone to leave. Later, Kira learns that several of her students had a relative dramatically impacted by the young man's crime. Some of them may be there purposely to do him harm. Soon, dangerous incidents begin to occur.
Andrew continues her cozy mystery series with her engaging protagonist and an interesting group of characters/suspects. The setting works well, and Andrew does a great job of incorporating Kira's art knowledge into the book, adding depth and believability. Except for a point near the end of the book when the wrong name accidentally refers to a character for a couple of pages, the book is easy to read and mostly free of grammatical errors. The sentences and scenes are well-paced, and the book is easy to pick up and put down without trouble. The character introductions and admittance of guilt may seem too easily presented for some. However, many fans of cozy mysteries will likely appreciate the straightforward nature of the narrative and enjoy a pleasant afternoon spent reading it.
