When Jeff Marlen spots a set of stars forming a smile across the night sky one evening, seemingly as a message just for him, all bets are off. As the third part of the author's story about the characters Jeff and Mindi, this book picks up with the couple still reeling after their recent involvement in assisting an international drug bust and now decidedly seeking some quiet normalcy. even if their normal involves developing their newfound paranormal abilities to discover new places and help those around them.
Jeff tentatively begins investigating UFOs after the stargazing encounter and soon finds himself and Mindi in the confidence of a supposed extraterrestrial and wrapped up in another high-stakes mission larger than themselves. As they wade through the murky waters of discerning friend from foe, truth from falsehood, and just who might be in control, the protagonists work to elude peril and find many of the answers to desperate longstanding questions.
Though at times it can be difficult to leap into a story once it has already begun, the author ensures that not a whiff of fogginess around Jeff and Mindi's previous adventures together remains. This makes the book a successful stand-alone novel and one that both entertains and educates on the history of extraterrestrial conspiracies and unexplained phenomena, even if a smattering of grammatical errors distracts slightly from the narrative. Jeff and Mindi are thoughtful, inquisitive, and determined characters, admirable in their nobility and perpetually philosophical about humanity. Overall, White has created a quick and highly readable thriller that is sure to intrigue the budding Nancy Drew within every mystery reader.
