Author Scarborough has embarked upon a rational, literate exploration of the truths to be found by diligently delving into the Holy Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, uncovering the truth of predictions concerning the end times. He believes that world cultures have digressed morally while progressing scientifically at a rate unimaginable only a few generations ago. He asserts that though “many are searching for answers” to spiritual quandaries, many established churches are developing theologies that include a wide range of issues while ignoring the actual words of God and Jesus. Therefore, he has created this lengthy look at biblical visions of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist, the Abomination of Desolation, and other cosmic eventualities that may, in fact, be hovering over the world’s inhabitants even now.
Though it may seem impossible, there will be times of panic, plunder, and even the pouring forth of blood in great rivers. The events will evoke the rise of the Antichrist, or the beast of the apocalypse, which will, in turn, require the second coming of Christ to destroy in a lake of fire those designated as “deceivers.” By contrast, during these same times, all those Christians who accepted and lived the life that God and his Son required will be protected—even brought back from the grave to renewed existence—and will join in the heavenly aspects of God’s plan. The city of Babylon, the symbol of greed and the accumulation of earthly treasures, will be destroyed in those days to the joyful relief of the saintly onlookers. Angels will appear, bearing rewards and pronouncements in symbolic array, and Israel will recoup its place as “the capital of the world”—an occurrence about which the Old Testament prophet Daniel dreamed.
Scarborough’s panoramic gathering of relevant scripture reveals that such noted prophets of ancient times, as well as the disciples and visionaries touched by the direct influence of Christ, all contribute to the end-time narratives that include the mandate set forth by Jesus to “evangelize the world,” a duty that the author has clearly taken as his personal duty. Scarborough, having had a career in architecture, has no formal theological training, but this does not detract from the obvious scholarship of this work. The author has also served as a Christian deacon and elder, roles that traditionally require more than a passing knowledge of biblical truth. A few years ago, he became part of a men’s fellowship group whose influence spurred him to explore more deeply the themes presented in the two volumes that comprise this admirable work.
As might be expected from someone who has respect for facts and proofs, he offers not only direct quotations from the Holy Bible but also an extensive bibliography of general knowledge, as well as a list of sources presenting references to other writers who have concentrated on similar topics. Scarborough concludes with the hope that he and his readers will meet during the approaching end times, destined to enjoy eternity in “immortal, resurrected bodies.” It appears certain that Scarborough’s well-constructed guide to the prophecies that predict a biblically attested spiritual upheaval will attract both like-minded readers and those who are embarking on a journey through that fount of knowledge and seeking expert observations and needed alerts.
