Flanzraich's third book in his series continues the sci-fi battle between those Geniuses who use their powers for good and to protect Ordinaries and those whose pursuits are evil and self-serving. Geniuses are those living among us who could pass as ordinary humans but have IQs ten times a normal genius and possess a myriad of powers along with this extraordinary intelligence. Examples of these powers include levitation, mind control, defensive shielding, and energy blasts.
The Astrakhan and Reynolds families have been battling for thousands of years, and their fight has included many generations. Due to both the family feud and a prophecy told by another genius, the Wizard Merlin from King Arthur's court, the Reynolds family finds themselves leading the defense against evil Geniuses. Their newest fight is with the twin brother of the last villain they faced, an evil previously separated by space and over 2,500 years old. He has brought the battle to the Reynolds on Earth.
Readers who enjoy mental-powered superheroes will feel right at home in Flanzraich's new book. Although the third in the series, any reader who begins with this book may miss the previous episodes but will still find plenty of recaps to get them up to speed. The writing itself is smooth, grammatically clean, and reads easily. There is also plenty of sci-fi technology that gets invented along the way for those who like that aspect of the genre. The protagonists and antagonists seemingly have good or evil written into their DNA and not much characterization outside of that. However, anyone who likes a mental throwdown in a sci-fi setting will find this book easy to pick up and enjoy.
