Jake is taking care of Trevor, a victim of human trafficking whom he and his brother Zack rescued. Jake wants to ensure Trevor gets the best possible care, so he decides to set up a home called Glacier House. This home will be a haven for victims of human trafficking, where they can readjust to the outside world with the help of counselors. Meanwhile, Trish is a nurse who has recently left an abusive relationship, but her ex-boyfriend Dillon is still stalking her at work and home. One day, Dillon assaults Trish and her neighbor when he tries to defend her. Trish files a restraining order against Dillon, but he violates it after being released on bail. To protect herself, Trish has no choice but to move somewhere where Dillon cannot find her. As their lives intersect, Jake and Trish will face some obstacles along the way.
Batt's novel focuses on abusive relationships and the aftermath for victims of human trafficking. The author explores the situations that victims face and how difficult it is for them to escape. Abusers manipulate and take advantage of their victims, making them feel powerless and that they have no way out. For example, Trish is unable to get rid of her ex-boyfriend, who seems to be everywhere. This type of abuse dehumanizes victims, treating them as prey instead of human beings. However, the book shows that with time and effort, it is possible to fight back against abusers. The author also discusses the resources available to help victims of human trafficking recover from past traumas. Every character has a unique voice that distinguishes them, and the dialogue feels authentic, providing readers with an idea of the characters' personalities. Furthermore, the book conveys the message that with God's help, anything is achievable.
