They find a manuscript, written by their mother's best friend, AJ, which tells a story of sexual trauma, horror, arson, and murder, as well as grief and loss. During this time frame, Cassie finds out that her controlling husband is much more than just controlling and that he is a dangerous man. With the help of a retired detective, Cassie and Ana have to cope with their past and present lives in order to survive and thrive within themselves and for their families.
This astonishingly suspenseful novel should be on the bestseller's list, for it is an outstanding read. The two stories, past and present, converge into one, and the prologue is revealed and completed at the end. While it looks at difficult topics such as sexual trauma, human trafficking, murder, and the horrors of the human condition, it is written with a compassionate view. Although the book is not to be taken lightly, it is also written in an uplifting manner, which is no easy task for such difficult topics. The reader will be immediately drawn in by this work and will want to read more from this author.
