The average reader may or may not be aware that if one were to take a koala bear and mix it with a wallaroo, the result would be a kallaboo. Kallaboos are easy to spot, as one quickly learns in this adorable children's picture book. This is because their pants are always falling down. Mama Kallaboo, for instance, puts a pair of pants on her baby, and, sure enough, they fall down. So she decides to sew on a button. Alas, the button pops off, and again his pants fall down. When she and Baby Boo are at the store, the little one reaches for a ragdoll clown, and guess what? Yes, his pants fall down. Mama then tries suspenders, but they too pop off as Baby Boo laughs and hops all around. A belt doesn't help either. When Daddy Kallaboo comes home later, he slips on the ragdoll clown, causing his pants to fall down, too.
Parsley has written a silly little book that toddlers and young children are sure to find quite amusing. The book is actually a poem, broken up nicely by placing a simple sentence or two on each page and accompanied by illustrations of the kallaboos and their entertaining adventures. With excellent rhythm and an emphasis on delivering splendid rhyme, Parsley's book would nicely complement any collection of children's materials, either in the home or in a childcare or preschool setting. It likely will become a group favorite, fitting for good reason the stereotype of that particular picture book that little ones beg to have read to them repeatedly. After all, what could be funnier than an adorable made-up creature who simply cannot keep his pants from falling down?
