"With rifles leveled and firing in Yuri’s direction, three ISIS soldiers followed Yuri into the cave. Brett opened fire with both AK-47s."

When Russian pilot Yuri Gargarin is mysteriously brought down by an unknown ISIS weapon suspected to be an EMP, the US Air Force chooses Captain Brett McDonald to find out what happened. In a modified F-16, Brett will follow Yuri’s flight plan and try to assess what weapon ISIS may have been using. Also, Brett is asked to try to contact Yuri. However, when even the modified F-16 is brought down, Brett finds himself hiding in a cave with Yuri and trying to survive. The pair pool their resources and devise a plan to help their governments determine precisely what weapon ISIS is using and formulate a plan to destroy it. This mission will take precise timing and will test their skills and nerves.

Quist spent time both in the US Air Force and as a member of law enforcement. He uses these experiences to give his writing the authority of someone who has been there. This book reads quickly, as Quist keeps the narrative moving at a rapid pace. Some parts of the story read like they are grounded in realism, while other parts feel more like a James Bond or Arnold Schwarzenegger film. There are essentially two narratives in Quist’s book. The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and the relatively modern rise of the radical Muslim group ISIS provide the backdrops for much of the story. Fans of action scenes and military tales will find this book a fast and entertaining read, and some may be motivated to research the real events that inspired the author to write this novel.
