Author Duncan describes what true wealth comprises and why devout, thoughtful Christians have the right and the destiny to receive it. The rationale presented may surprise some readers, since many Christian churches set forth a belief structure of humility, even poverty, required for their worshippers, whereas Duncan invites them to concentrate on “money, property, and possessions.” The Holy Bible asserts that “your barns shall be filled… and your vats shall overflow.” The way that God endows His bounty can be seen in the Old Testament’s Moses, whom God loved and who was wealthy in every way, both earthly and spiritually. Jesus promised no less as he gave his life so that the blessings bestowed on Abraham would be shared by all. An essential element in accepting and using this wealth is wisdom, characterized as “she” who despises sin and encourages righteous understanding. When one develops this understanding, one may begin receiving wealth and sharing it with others. This can include tithing and double-tithing, as one’s faith becomes a stepping stone to an inspired increase of God-given assets.
Duncan is an apostle and pastor in an international ministry based in the Caribbean. He candidly recounts having practiced both the double-tithing that he espouses here and instituting other lively practices such as a “dayspring” prayer service from five to six a.m., reveling in the appearance of light and the suppression of darkness and its associations with evil. He effectively uses personal observation, rational examples, and a weekly framework for readers’ practice, suggesting various channels by which those who make full use of their spiritual inheritance may receive more, often surprising, life-enhancing rewards. Duncan’s book is designed to illustrate what abundance God provides and how his people can accept and increase it. His work will doubtless provide a cogent focus for discussion and practical application among thoughtful Christians.
