This guided self-help book is divided into two sections: “Life-Lesson Therapy,” which consists of seven chapters, and “Soul-Wisdom Therapy,” consisting of five chapters. The first part focuses on reversing negative patterns of behavior, while the second part is about learning techniques for listening within and developing one’s spiritual consciousness. The chapters consist of case studies and sometimes have personal information from the author, often use voice dialogue to help with working through the problem, and end with specific exercises to complete based on each specific chapter.
Rosen utilizes a great deal of research in the text, and spiritual wisdom is seen as a focus for healing. The book then focuses on deeper realms of consciousness, transpersonal (beyond the ego) psychology, meditation, faith, grace, and religion vs. spirituality. Serving others and self-actualization are also explored, as are the nine rules that are given in the previous chapters. There are a number of useful appendices as well.
Rosen’s book has much to offer by combining work in transpersonal psychology from the 1980s and 1990s with the work of the early 2000s. Thoroughly written with a lot of pertinent information, the author’s book effectively guides the reader through a number of personal issues including inner child work, coping with dysfunctional families, and focusing on feelings. It utilizes various techniques with a focus on transpersonal psychology. By including herself in some of the cases, Rosen offers a personal style. and the case studies she uses make it easy for readers to relate to and engage with the readings. The appendices and the glossary add pertinent information, and the significant research included adds the right amount of authority to the teaching.
