Modern Catholic Concerns
by Peter Mazurek
Xlibris

"Our objective in considering religious issues is to find the truth."

The author’s book is an extensive compendium of Catholic beliefs, apologetics, and history. Written to approach the Catholic faith with neutrality, Mazurek’s text delves into various questions and theories that have been presented over the history of Catholicism. Playing the devil's advocate, he makes strong arguments for and against various aspects of Catholic beliefs. This detailed volume begins with parameters on science vs. religion, the reason for doubt, and the basics of creation. It then moves into examining the existence of God, Jesus' divinity, the Catholic Church as a whole, and, finally, the modern concerns of Catholics. The reader gets to experience an overview of famous theories regarding proving and disproving God's existence and the divinity of Jesus Christ, such as Aquinas' Five Proofs, and how these arguments are both compelling and lacking.

This notable work is written with intentionality in order to explore the most important aspects of the Catholic faith. Even though it is not a short read, Mazurek’s book is helpfully broken up and organized so the reader can take in the information in bite-sized chunks. Written with Catholics in mind, this book will appeal to devout adherents who have a strong grasp of their faith and the ability to discern between fact and opinion. Although impressive and detailed, the book includes some statements that may not necessarily conform to typical Catholic beliefs. Overall, those who are hoping to empathize with the concerns of believers and nonbelievers alike and have open conversations about the faith will benefit from reading this comprehensive examination of it.
