"Exploring new activities is not bad, but if a person changes their life frequently, it could be a sign of impulsivity."

Impulsivity can take many forms and be a byproduct of many different conditions, both internal and external. In this interactive presentation, the titular Nurse Dorothea seeks to inform the students in her audience about what impulsivity is, where it comes from, how to manage it, and what can go wrong if it is not properly addressed. With a slideshow presentation that incorporates visual elements, question-and-answer segments, and education on various causes and mitigation strategies for impulsive behavior, readers will learn all about what leads people to engage in those kinds of choices. Focused on education and empathy, this straightforward approach will answer lots of questions people may have and, at the same time, give them the perspective to analyze their own approaches and judge if any intervention is necessary.

Each page of text is accompanied by a large illustration that shows the progression of Nurse Dorothea’s presentation, giving visual cues to things like brain chemistry, social trauma, and practicing mindfulness. The students asking questions and offering their take on questions posed both to them and the reader represent an extremely diverse array of backgrounds, ensuring that readers will recognize a voice similar to their own within the pages. The more interactive elements helpfully break up explanations and information with questions to the reader that can be discussed in a group or real-world classroom environment, or if the reader is reading alone, encourage them to reflect and write their answers down in a journal. Dow has crafted a useful resource for younger readers that can help them to make sense of their own emotions and decision-making, allowing them to manage themselves and not feel as though they are lesser than their peers.
