Office Of The Prophet: A Comprehensive Study
by Janice E. Wagner
Citi of Books

"When a prophet or a believer receives true prophecy from the Lord, it is like a fire burning within them. It can’t be ignored."

Encouraging a deeper immersion into scripture, Wagner’s work weaves together her personal experiences with a thought-provoking and authentic understanding of what the office of the prophet entails, from receiving the call from the Holy Spirit to fulfilling the responsibilities of prophecy. While the author’s four decades of ministering lend immense credence to the content, the fluid writing style and natural storytelling ability keep the work engaging.

From the onset, Wagner emphasizes that one does not have to be perfect or even pious to receive the call. She acknowledges that she was not. Yet, once received, it is imperative to heed the call. Throughout the sections, it becomes apparent that the office of the prophet is incredibly vital yet has undeniably become forgotten within the church. The author’s work stands out among faith-based literature. While it also incorporates scripture verses, it emphasizes a strong understanding of human fallibility and the opportunity for redemption. Her commentary on water baptisms and the lack of focus on the Old Testament are insightful as audiences learn about the idea of anointing and simply trusting God unconditionally.

Numerous personal anecdotes supplement Wagner’s dissection of what it means to have the office of the prophet. However, the one that perhaps resonates most is when she and her family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her life is not short of trials and tribulations, such as moving to a home without water or initially paying two mortgages due to being unable to sell the Georgia home immediately. Nevertheless, the work drives home a stellar point: the office of the prophet is essentially the medium through which the Lord assures mankind that healing is on the horizon, and transformation, though not immediate, is imminent.
