"After a while, Mommy called them into the living room to show them the toys that Santa had left for each of them."

Jake and Peaches, two lovable dogs, get woken up on Christmas morning by their Mommy to see the gifts that Santa Claus has left for them. They each receive a big bone treat, with Peaches taking a cue from her older brother, Jake, on how to chow down on it. The biggest gifts of all are a plush moose and fox. Jake instantly claims the moose, but Peaches is less certain about what to do with her new fox toy. However, with help from her Mommy, Peaches learns that Foxie makes a wonderful sleeping companion. After her nap, Peaches joins Jake in playing with Moosie, and before the day is done, the plushie has already started to fall apart from their fun. It does not take long for Moosie to become more like fragments of fabric, but Jake still enjoys the toy. Foxie, however, remains fully intact to this day.

Some stories shine because of their homemade quality. This tale of two dogs on Christmas morning is one such tale. Photographs found on every page illustrate Jake and Peaches celebrating the occasion, munching on bones, and exploring their toys. It is also very clear that they, alongside their mommy, are one big happy family. The wholesomeness exuded by the whole occasion is a joy to read, especially for dog lovers. Further, Jake and Peaches' distinct personalities are on full display from the first page, with Peaches being a younger sibling who trusts the judgment of her older brother and mommy when navigating unfamiliar situations. Another admirable thing is that even though Moosie is basically deflated by the end, he is not just discarded. He continues to be a source of entertainment for Jake, whatever the form. Overall, this story is a fun, quiet romp with two dogs who fully appreciate their blessings.
