"The freezing November night was shaken from its deep slumber as the sound of metal, scraping on metal, vibrated through a still countryside."

A horrific train wreck that results in many deaths changes the lives of numerous people. Aboard the train is a woman who has just kidnapped a baby from her pram, accompanied by the mother's horror of discovering this loss. One baby on the train lives, while another is killed. Another mother is significantly injured. She suffers from amnesia and is unable to account for everything that has happened. The tragedy of the wreck is far-reaching, and the death of a baby not only impacts her family but eventually affects numerous other people. The book explores the in-depth lives of the many players, including an abusive husband, a gay best friend and his partner, grandparents, siblings, and the police. It also involves divorce and remarriage. Yet something seems amiss, and questions start being asked.

This highly engaging book offers exquisite details and a fascinating storyline. It is well written and takes the reader through love and loss, horror and forgiveness, with a writing style that captures the reader's interest from the very first page. It examines the human condition and makes the various players come alive. The narrative thoroughly catches the reader's imagination as it weaves the plot threads back and forth from the beginning to the very end. Each person in the book reveals the depth of that person's individual story, which relates to the overall tale of many people. It will be hard for the reader to take a breath and pause from reading this novel because it is so fascinating. It is a hidden gem well worth uncovering.
