Poems of Absolute Faith
by Lynn Simpson

"Jesus is comin’ back
And he’s not going to see if you’re red, yellow, black, or white."

From the first poem to the last, Simpson’s rendition of faith-based poetry, specifically the unconditional surrender to God’s grace, is exhibited with fervor and authenticity. Using real-world examples like making a phone call to God, the poet is unyielding in leading audiences to the light of the Word to prepare unsuspecting or unenlightened souls for an impending rapture where the absolute faith of reverent souls will eternally fuse with the absolute love of the Lord.

Whether it is via a stronger church or meditation, Simpson urges the reader to seek out their Savior. Even those mired in vices and controlled by the temptations of Satan are reeled back to the ways of God with subtle references like the Wizard of Oz's “yellow-brick highway.” In poems like “Love, Peace, and Grace,” the unique and unyielding connection between the speaker and God is moving, rooted in a firm understanding of God sacrificing his only Son for the good of mankind.

The teaching here is to eliminate procrastination and seize the moment. In a nutshell, the poet’s mantra to her audiences is a pure one, a relentless call to action supplemented with a desire to help humanity understand why Jesus is so prominent in her life. In particular, Simpson’s use of imagery in her poems delivers a divine experience, whether it is the purity of swans flying up to the divine, the peace of snow, or the burden of Egyptian pharaohs. Above all else, Simpson’s poetic cadence conveys a sense of serenity, a foreshadowing of the promise of a blissful life inundated in Christ’s love and the Word.
