Roare Murdock is a filmmaker making the rounds to promote her latest film, which tackles drug abuse. It is a very personal project, as she battled her addictions in her teens. A lot of her demons resulted from abandonment issues. Now in her mid-twenties, she is a successful documentarian and is married to Wyatt, who loves and comforts her unequivocally. While her promotional tour has had the occasional hiccup with nosy interviewers, Roare is dumbfounded after a random encounter on the street with a musician leads to an introduction to Transhumanism and the agenda of those promoting the use of artificial intelligence. Roare has encountered disconcerting sights before, but the insidious implications of cyborgs warrant further investigation and a subsequent documentary. However, corporations such as CoSynthesis prefer to keep their technology a trade secret until the time is right.

The potential for AI to be used and manipulated by bad actors to replace human beings in the workforce is explored in this excellent, gripping story. Roare Murdock is a compelling protagonist who has spent her previous years exorcising the demons from her past, yet remains haunted by the abandonment of her father before she was born and later her friends when she was most vulnerable. When she learns about those concerned with Transhumanism, she doesn't give the subject short shrift. The outstanding narrative combines crisp dialogue with great drama and suspense as Roare continues her inquiry into an agenda that, if successful, could also ensure humanity's redundancy. While once considered speculative fiction, this book insightfully explores a topic that feels all too real in our current world.
