Recovery: Life After the Loss of Angela
by Guglielmo
Brilliant Books Literary

"I have been privileged with the ability of seeing my children all grown and living their lives."

This short book outlines some of the experiences and emotions of an older man during the illness (and after the passing) of his wife, Angela. The author briefly mentions the situations of his adult children and himself, including his productive attempt to deal with his profound grief by joining a group of people who were in similar stages of processing grief. Guglielmo touches upon the challenges faced by his children at the time but refrains from in-depth explanations since the situations of his children are their own. Understandably, he feels he must respect their privacy.

There are individual and group photographs of the family, and the author expresses repeatedly his gratitude that his children and their families are now close. Each member has dealt with the major challenges of their lives. Thanks especially to one living member and the memory of Angela, the group had a reunion. Each attendee was able to claim a gentle victory over some problems and barriers.

This heartfelt book is a Valentine to a couple's devotion to each other. It successfully explores the couple’s building of their lives and family together and having it break up through illness, poor choices, and death. The narrative then moves on to the recovery and reunion of the surviving members. The author's devotion to his subjects is front and center. However, the text could benefit from editing and the further development of situations and incidents that the author mentions. The author makes it clear that he is extremely grateful for the qualities of his life and family now. Readers will undoubtedly rejoice that Guglielmo's story concludes happily. His book is truly a testimony to the healing power of unfailing love.
