Aaron is a polite, hard-working mechanic who is nearing thirty. He enjoys the work and loves being an “uncle” to his best friend’s two kids. Things change after Aaron collapses suddenly at work. He can hear a woman speaking to him in his head, and she wants to meet him. The woman is Aurora, and she is the daughter of the king of the faeries. Aaron learns that he was whisked away from the faerie world when he was a small child. Moreover, if he doesn’t properly release his wings and mate by his thirtieth birthday, the pain will kill him. After that, he will be given one chance to visit the faerie world and decide whether he will stay or return to earth to live out the rest of his years. Neither he nor Aurora knows that a suitor from elven lands she once rejected still pines for her and is determined to have her, even if it requires taking her by force.
Grant’s novel is a fantasy mixed with short bursts of semi-erotic fiction. She uses the classic tale of being taken from Earth to a world full of magic and wonder. The erotic scenes are better than many out there as they are not so ridiculous they lose the reader. The world of the faeries is interesting and provides a good backdrop for the development of the action in the book. Grammatical issues, especially in the latter half of the book, disrupt the narrative flow a bit, but Grant has still created an engaging novel. Readers who enjoy fantasy worlds, especially those a little bit atypical, and who like the addition of some steamy romance, will find this an easy book to pick up and enjoy over the course of a few evenings.
