Gould's story is that of his and his family's lives and work and the ways in which work and faith precipitated the author's success in business and Hollywood. Gould is honest about his complex relationship with a caring but abusive father. After a severe beating, the teenage Gould established himself independently to support himself in emotional and professional settings that were consistent with his faith—the primary priority of his life—as well as his needs and ability for material success to benefit himself and many others. The author's grandmother was a positive role model. He lived with her briefly until her sudden death from a massive heart attack. The author credits his faith and work ethic with keeping him on a positive track in life as he dealt with the trauma of his dear relative's passing.
Gould engagingly shares with the reader his mixed experiences of seeking and working in Hollywood movies as he also kept his "day jobs." His memoir clearly reveals his heart for God and others. For example, after some years, he was able to begin his own business and, to his delight, provide support quickly for nearly two dozen families. His success story is atypical of many similar Hollywood biographies as it reveals an individual who is not completely self-focused. Instead, Gould's narrative serves to inspire the reader to have faith in God, be positive and grateful, and work hard. It becomes obvious in the book that the author's health, as well as his ability to work and provide for others, give him tremendous joy and reinforce his faith. Gould's book is pleasant, easy to read, and offers an interesting story of a person who has made a success in many areas of his life.
