Longtime friends Janice Rogers and Sharon Stevenson purchase an old mansion in Beaverton and transform it into The Sanctuary Retreat Center, a bed and breakfast. When their original handyman has to leave due to a family emergency, the ladies hire Jason as his replacement. Sparks fly between Jason and Sharon when they shake hands for the first time, and they feel an immediate connection. In addition to Jason, Janice and Sharon have also brought on a new cook, whom Jason recommended—his brother, Raymond. When Janice and Raymond meet, they are equally drawn to each other. So far, Jason has been doing an excellent job at The Sanctuary, but he harbors a secret: he is an undercover CIA agent. He is investigating a series of murders that have occurred every July 1st in this small town for the past three years. This year, Jason must prevent another murder by catching the killer.
Radke surprises readers with a compelling mix of attraction, murder investigations, and hidden secrets. This combination is refreshing, as it brings unexpected themes together, creating excitement and drawing readers in. The author initially hints at Jason's undercover job while the other characters remain unaware of it. This allows readers to know more than the characters, making them feel like they are in on a secret, which adds to the thrill of the story. Additionally, Radke explores the theme of attraction, illustrating how characters can physically sense these feelings. The author skillfully illustrates the profound impact that one individual can have on another's emotional and sensory experiences. By exploring the intimate connections between people, the author reveals how interactions can lead to discovering feelings and sensations that might have previously gone unexperienced. Radke's novel is guaranteed to entertain.
