The Tree of Life
by Daniel G. Miller
Houndstooth Books

"That creep of anxiety that she felt was nothing more than a reminder that she hadn’t finished the job. Sure, RED controlled America, but the world remained."

Miller’s third and final book in the Tree of Knowledge series begins as Albert questions the lethal methods Eva is using in the Sword of Eden’s attempt to thwart Cristina and the RED Army. Cristina’s fanaticism has Eva grasping for control and Albert powerless to stop her terrorist tactics. The High Council is preparing for a new world order that includes The Voice of God, a data center rivaling China’s Great Firewall. As it is introduced to the world, there are few left within the resistance group Sword of Eden, to accomplish a final takedown of Cristina’s RED Army. RED eyes are everywhere with a secret weapon named Cynthia—a soldier with powers beyond anything previously known and who continuously stands in the way of the rebellion. When Albert finds his father, he finds the cipher and, more importantly, hope for the future.

Using the Tree of Knowledge, Miller plays upon the enigma of how a mathematical equation can foretell the future moves of each entity, as in a game of chess. Brilliantly written with neither good nor evil having a step up, only the Tree of Knowledge can be used to claim victory. Miller’s characters are dauntless and magnificent in their ability to continually obstruct the enemy. Providing tense humor, the author uses the character of Albert’s mother to write a blog on the newly installed RED social media site, often redacted, about her crime-free neighborhood haven. Eva learns that the hatred she has for her mother and her love for Albert cannot reign over her desire to keep the world free. Relationships shift and bend as Miller proves that this utopia has its own little hell. While spinning a tale of power and corruption, Miller’s finale challenges the reader to solve the cipher.
