In this entertaining story about Torro, a beloved parrot, the protagonist goes from being sad to happy once he is adopted by a beautiful girl who buys him from a marketplace in a faraway place while on vacation with a friend. Torro is so happy, and he wants to make his new mommy happy as well. When the vacation ends, she takes Torro home, and they have more fun. They go on many adventures together, and Torro loves to imitate and talk to her and others. He loves to play with his toys, snuggle with his mommy in bed, and even goes to a baseball game. But one time, when he is in a tree, two boys take him to their home. He is very sad until his mommy finds him and brings him home safely. Torro says he will never wander off again.
This sweet, fun story for young children is also beautifully illustrated by Terri Kelleher, who nicely depicts all the adventures of Torro’s new life in a colorful manner. The book not only teaches about having fun, it examines the important relationship between humans and pets. Adventures are shown as a way of life for both human and animal. as is the value of having ongoing ones. The story also teaches about sadness and loss, the bond between each other, and the importance of not wandering away. It is an easy read, and by offering life lessons, it teaches children about companionship, love, safety, and how to treat pets in a healthy manner, as Torro is not locked into his cage but is free to have his own fun. This charming tale about a girl and her parrot pal is sure to bring plenty of smiles.
