You don't have to know them personally to love them. The main characters are adorable twins, and when they work together, their world is simply better. So many young families have sibling rivalry and chaos in their homes. If the children learn early to find their similarities, accept their differences, and work together rather than compete against each other, their lives are measurably happier. The book lays it all out for children ages two and up to listen to and for early readers to read and comprehend quickly.
Perhaps what makes this book exceptional is that it illustrates the power of each person's unique strengths in combination with those of another. For example, "Sebastian knows his sister's strength is making great snowballs... Simone knows her brother's strength is throwing really well and far." The illustrations are colorful, lively, and instructive, as well. Additionally, Simone and Sebastian are children of color, a refreshing feature in a genre that is often rather monochromatic. It is vital that kids see diversity in books so that they can grow up accepting the mosaic nature of humanity as an enriching reality.
The co-authors seem to be good at everything. As highly competent writers, parents, and medical professionals, they have directed their skills toward positively influencing children with this project. Their book even has a postscript to guide teachers or parents in how to improve children’s comprehension skills when discussing the story with them. The authors have hit it out of the park with their book, crafting a work that will undoubtedly resonate not only with twins but with anyone who has a close sibling.
