Utopia Project - Everyone Must Die
by Billy Dering
Pinewald Press

"And no matter how fast he moves, he is never able to outrun a viscous, red tidal wave that churns body parts, bones, and entrails."

The world does not go out with a bang or a whimper but a silent flash of red (or, more precisely, death by a neuron beam). In this action-packed story, everyone was supposed to die, paving the way for a superior type of human. But like all things in life, it became complicated and messy. This is the tale of the survivors, who didn't die like they were supposed to and fought to live each new day as if it were their last.

At its core, this is a haunting love story interwoven within a chilling, all-too-real yet beyond nightmarish landscape. It's a modern Shakespearan tragedy full of longing, regrets, and a simple action that sets it all into motion. While Kid and Sara's relationship will make readers hold their loved ones a little more closely at night, the relationships between the other survivors and how they mature and evolve throughout the story are both diverse and satisfying, bringing this dystopian, post-apocalyptic world to life.

The author has created a rich and complex world with this alternate Earth. Chock full of scenarios that hit close to home, it creates an atmosphere that gives one pause yet also makes one eager to turn the page. From government conspiracies to life in an imprisoned enclave onboard a ship, this story is carefully constructed and paced, making it a terrifyingly good read. Dering's novel would make a fantastic beach read for those wanting a page-turning contemporary sci-fi thriller in the vein of Dean Koontz or Michael Crichton.
