Referred by his mentor and professor, young computer scientist Sid Joshi is recruited into a new division of the CIA designed to streamline the gathering of intelligence. As part of his training, Sid has spent months in other countries simply serving as a courier to other agents, learning the process of how intelligence is gathered. His latest assignment sends him to India, where he is meant to profile possible threats to American infrastructure targets through the manufacture of embedded chips, but when a fellow agent mistakenly indicates that there is more to the mission, things spiral out of control. His driver is shot in the head, and Sid discovers a dirty nuclear bomb that he was meant to bring into the facility. Can he stop the attack and can the CIA determine in time who is responsible for the clandestine move?
This tale of political intrigue mixes in a great deal of compelling elements, from the global spy networks to the involvement of lobbying groups and competitive corporations. Even the romantic element is represented in Sarah, Sid's former classmate and friend who is waiting for him to return home from training and who gets a job with a shady lobbying group in the meantime. All of the intricate threads from America to the Indian sub-continent are laid out and tied together in this race-against-time thriller. Fans of action and government intelligence will love the build-up and fast delivery of action, which stands well enough on its own but could easily become the first in a series of titles similar to those released by authors like Robert Ludlum.
