Advice from an Alien by Joseph Cater Book-Surge Publishing
book review by Barbara Deming
"They are in the middle chapters of a very long story."
The Alien was given an assignment five hundred years ago when sent to this planet: live as an earthling, make friends through whom you will study the progress they've made, and assist the galaxy homeland in one day taking over the place humans refer to as "their world." If he hadn't committed an unacceptable faux pas near the end of his three-year stay, the extraterrestrial would've fulfilled his duties and flown home safely. Instead, he is banned from returning and decides to share his advice on how to save Earth, a planet showing definite strains of misuse and neglect.
His guide covers religion, work, money, personal relationships, proper living, dying, politics, and entertainment. Using his Earthling friends as examples, he offers his perspective on how to overcome the damage already done. The Alien's astute observations offer insight into his new-found mission: to save us from ourselves, and encourage us to live "the good old days" as though they are happening today. His superiors have become convinced he's improved beyond their expectations and he may now return home at any time. The Alien chooses to stay.
There's something about this science-fiction book that sparks the imagination. Whether the reader accepts it as memoir or fiction, serious or humorous, Cater provokes thought. His advice is heartfelt as he shares a new prospective on life here on Earth… past, present, and future. At the end of this unique journey, Cater promises more to come for readers who seek glimpses into our world beyond tomorrow.
