American Invasions: Canada to Afghanistan 1775 to 2010 by Rocky M. Mirza Trafford Publishing
book review by Lee Ware
"Empires like the American Empire never quit their expansionist militarism because their economies are collapsing. They continue to the bitter end."
In the introduction, Mirza lays out his thesis of the book, which sets up the tone for his well-meaning, albeit at times emotional, writing. The heart of the book outlines every American invasion since its conception to present day and is loosely organized chronologically and/or geographically. Mirza's point seems to argue that the American Empire never has and never will be a peaceful force in the world.
While the use of many dates and figures suggests a fair amount of research, the lack of citations and footnotes does little to verify accuracy or justify the interpretation of the proposed facts. Mirza's passionate writing suggests a closeness to the material and a deep concern for the subject. This emotional quality sometimes interferes with keeping focus on the subject at hand. For example, in the middle of the section where Mirza reports on the American invasion and conquest of Louisiana, he switches to a more recent invasion in the Middle East and makes generalized comments without naming which country in particular he is referring to. "When the people resist the US call them terrorists and use their superior military weapons to steal their country and install puppet pro-American governments justifying the theft in the name of fighting terrorism. The World superficially agrees because everyone, except for a small minority, is afraid of the overwhelming military superiority of the US or is begging for its paltry hand out of foreign aid, a mere 0.2% of its GDP."
After demonstrating the tyranny the U.S. and its presidents have displayed for centuries, Mirza suggests that the American Empire is falling and that if the world has any hope for peace, it should be placed in China because, "President Obama has made it crystal clear in the first year of his administration that he intends to be as White as every previous American President and equally warmongering."
