Blessings in Blogs: Living Effectively
by Genia M. Owens
Trafford Publishing

"To be able to identify and acknowledge the amazing flavor of God in your life, you have to first think about what is your measure of amazement."

Independent publishing has long been an answer for the truly determined author to enable his or her writings to make it to print, while the rise of the Internet and especially blogging has given digital content a greater exposure and legitimacy than ever before. The author of this collection of Christian musings has decided to take the best of both worlds and blend them into an innovative and high-quality work.

Although she originally planned on publishing her inspirational posts on a website, instead Owens felt led by God to craft her thoughts into book chapters while retaining the feel of an online blog. This hybrid approach has allowed her to write material that has the appeal and length of web content but that doesn't require a computer to access. Like a traditional blog, the entries bounce from subject to subject and yet are tied together by a central theme, in this case the author's profound love for scripture and her savior, Jesus Christ. Posting dates and mood-invoking photos are other blogging staples she employs to give her content the look and feel of a personal website. The writing itself is spot on. In some posts such as "About Tithing" the author effectively argues her point like a lawyer, while in others like "While We Wait" she explores simple yet important truths of the faith that stem from her past.

Packed with scripture references in a notes section, handy definitions of religious terms, and entries written with passion and purpose, Owen's book of blogs is a keeper.
