Cut & See: Activity Book 2 by Vitaliy M Serebryanskiy Trafford Publishing
book review by Arthur Gershman
"This unique and simple way of creating everyday objects into geometric shaped cutouts, is fun and interactive for kids."
This is a children's activity book. Following the instructions, beautiful paper cut outs can be made seemingly by magic. To make a cutout, which takes the form of a wreath, a page of the book is separated from the book. The separated page is then folded in half and then another fold is made along a dotted line printed on the page. A cut is then made along the outline of a colored pattern on the page. The cut out is then unfolded to reveal the wreath. The remaining portion of the wreath can then be colored to match the precolored pattern. Each page is labelled, for example, "Eagle," "Apple" or "Bear." There are a total of 44 different designs in such categories as animals, fruit, leaves, fish, mushrooms, and insects, including a very cute lady bug. One page is left blank to inspire creation of one's own design. A jazzy colored cover invites the participation of the children to the fun which lies within.
The author has a fascinating background and personal story to relate. He was born in Uzbekistan in 1955 and and immigrated to the United States in 1999. He now is at home in Vancouver, Washington with a family of nine children. The inspiration for this book came from his grandchildren, who were constantly asking him to draw pictures and tell stories. The book will provide endless hours of creative fun for children at home, at school, and is ideal for a children's birthday party.
