by Swami Muktibodhananda Saraswati
Trafford Publishing

"Whether your are atheist, agnostic or theist you need fulfillment on all levels from the physical, to mental, emotional and intuitional layers."

This compilation of the mind/body/soul practices of yoga offers insight into numerous healing practices, poses, and health tips for both the beginner and moderate level practitioner. There are ten chapters consisting of the Universal Goddess, healthy attitudes, cleansing practices, and chapters on the body, breath, and muscle techniques, mudras, meditation, food and health tips, and relationship issues. The book is 117 pages and is chock full of illustrations and information which guide the practitioner. An interesting beginning consists of the pronunciation of Sanskrit terminology and terms throughout the book are underlined to aid in learning. The chakras are discussed as are the five elements. But most significant are the fifty-five body poses, breath utilisation, muscle squeezing, mudras, and meditation practices.

An excellent, well-written book, Energy offers a basic look into yoga which is easily understood and practiced. However, it is not for the faint of heart (or back) unless you ease slowly into the numerous poses. For those who are beginners, begin slowly or your may strain yourself unnecessarily. But by easing into the various practices, you will find this information valuable for your healing. Basic teachings about chakras, healthy attitudes, and food and health tips are also insightful, although the chapter on relationships and family is so basic that it distracts from the rest of the book. Yet overall, this is not only a good read, but a practical one if only the reader commits to a practice of yoga. Utilizing these practices will be valuable for healing on all levels for not only the individual spirit, but also for the universal spirit.
