"Formation in godliness can well be understood as responding to God’s invitation to feast with Father, Son and Spirit."

The relationship with God for which an individual Christian needs to strive has been made more accessible with this guide. Here, author Easley compares that relationship with taking three meals. “Breakfast with the Father” is the time to comprehend and accept God as the loving creator, the light of the universe, the one deserving of our praise. Through grasping who God is, we can develop both a comprehensible view of his creation and an acknowledgment of his role in our lives. This will be aided by the study of scripture. “Lunch with the Spirit” will be concentrated on spiritual power, health, and discipline. This is derived from an understanding of God as the Holy Spirit, permeating our lives and helping us to build strong character despite the world’s many temptations. “Supper with the Son” is our opportunity to reach out to our fellow human beings through worship, companionship, mission, and service, following the example set by Jesus.

Easley’s examination of the sacred Trinity, though couched in the metaphor of mealtimes, is not as simple as that may seem to imply. As a teacher of theology, he delved deeply into these matters and authored other books treating with similar subjects. Along with numerous quotations from the Bible, this book demonstrates Easley’s knowledge of language, history, and the tenets of other world religions, the philosophies of postmodernism that ignore or deny deity, and the recent emergence of charismatic Christianity and its implications for the faith. As such, it is both inspirational and educational. Each chapter ends with “Reflective Questions,” posited to guide the reader to a personal evaluation of the material. This intelligent treatise, published posthumously, can serve as a thoughtful study guide for those focusing on seriously broadening their religious life and as an academic text for Christian-based institutions.
