Christians who feel the call to share their faith with others do so through a variety of platforms. Some are led to the pulpit where they expound on biblical passages before their congregations. Others hit the street corners and subway stations, passing out tracts to those who will take them. And some, like the author of this volume of heartfelt spiritual poetry, use their literary skills to exhort their readers to examine their lives and discover their need for a closer walk with Christ.
This third collection of Fletcher's poems bristles with pointed, grab-you-by-the-collar verse that makes no attempt at subtlety. Inspired by sermons and testimonies, his poems springboard off what he has heard and then seek to lead his audience to a better understanding of Christian truths and principles. For example, selections like "Life Change" and "Renewing Your Mind" are a plea for repentance. "Your King Is Coming" encourages believers to hold fast to their faith. Still others, such as "Can You Afford Not To Pray?" remind readers of the importance of maintaining their connection to God through a spiritual discipline. In addition, Fletcher includes several poems that challenge destructive attitudes and lifestyles within his community like in the piece "A Real Man" or which focus on specific events such as the death of a friend in "Heather."
Most of Fletcher's poems are composed of several long couplets and have a musical rhythm to them that is reminiscent of the lyrics of veteran Christian rapper Michael Peace. Like Peace's rhymes, Fletcher's poetry is filled with a passion and conviction that demands to be heard.
