Kira's Keepers
by Roseann T. Kurtz
Trafford Publishing

"Just when you think that life couldn't be any unkinder, wait."

Thirty-eight year-old Kira Whitaker decides after her separation that it's time for her to move on with her life and explore beyond her New Jersey environs. Not making any specific plans, Kira heads out to Virginia where she unexpectedly meets Travis, a strikingly handsome man. Travis is young enough to be Kira's son. Nonetheless, their attraction to one another is immediate. On top of that, Travis is the son of a millionaire. Head over heels in love, Kira is swept up in a whirlwind romance when she moves into Travis' lavish home. Kira's fairytale life is suddenly interrupted when Travis' sister, Angel, moves in. Behind closed doors Angel is nasty to Kira. But that is only the beginning of Kira's problems, especially when she finds out that she's pregnant. What transpires thereafter is a surreal set of circumstances that totally turns Kira's life upside down. Published posthumously, Kira's Keepers is one thriller replete with a wonderful blend of characters set within a twisted plot.

Kurtz's narrative includes a well-developed cast. Zeroing in on Kira, her principle character, Kurtz has created a kind and compassionate person whose vulnerability at this stage in her life makes her a prime target for all things sinister. Indeed, Kurtz's idea of an antagonist is analogous to a Jekyll-and-Hyde persona. Aside of Angel, who is a dead giveaway, readers will be thrown off course when they find out that Travis equally fits Kurtz's antagonist profile. Amid the other surly and menacing characters, Kurtz balances her cast with a benevolent host who aptly ties into her highly complex plot. Although Kira's Keepers is not broken into chapters, Kurtz's skillful use of alternating scenes filled with twists and turns will keep readers sitting on the edge of their seats until the very end.
