The author of this devotional treatise was once lost in darkness (sin, distance from God). To emerge into the light (Jesus and Christian teaching), it was necessary to completely accept Jesus Christ as savior. That led to Bible study and an appreciation of how Christian Biblical principles can guide our daily lives. The book examines the difference between worldly facts and spiritual truth ("never let man be your example of Christ or Christianity") and clarifies the confusion about different Christian denominations ("remember that Jesus is not coming back for any particular group"). The author makes a compelling case for personal responsibility in relationships, both human and divine. Being with other people requires taking responsibility; even more so once one has made a commitment to a relationship with Jesus.
The book is short, with many quotations from the Bible. It is written well, using easy-to-understand examples, and is organized logically, from the author's own experience of darkness and light, to the ways that the reader can find and live in that same light. One wishes there was some information about the author however: Is s/he a preacher? How did s/he come to these understandings and have the impulse to share them with others? In addition, more specific information about the dark and light periods of the author's life would make the story more accessible, dramatic, and inspirational. Anyone wanting a simple but thoughtful understanding of Christian teachings could benefit from Ashon's writings.
