"This is the right place to be. I will never stop inviting you, even if my words mingle a bit. The air here is dense – full of pockets fiilled up with an awful lot of opportunities."
London, the City of Angels and Olympics:
Do NOT Gamble by Bes and Syrk Trafford Publishing
book review by John E. Roper
"This is the right place to be. I will never stop inviting you, even if my words mingle a bit. The air here is dense – full of pockets fiilled up with an awful lot of opportunities."
One of the oft-mentioned joys of being a grandparent is that you can spoil the child rotten during the day and then avoid any consequences by sending the sugared-up kid home for the parents to deal with at bedtime. Yet while they may chuckle at the idea of this form of subtle revenge on their adult children, it is likely that most grandparents wish they could actually have more time with their grandchildren to help nurture them and impart some of the wisdom gained over several decades of life. The author was fortunate enough to have such an opportunity when her two young grandsons came to London to stay with her, as the city counted down the months and days until the Summer Olympics of 2012.
While the first book in the series was mainly an introduction to Bes and Syrk, a vehicle for some of Granny's teachings, and literally an invitation for the world to come and join the young boys in London for the upcoming Olympic Games, this second volume is a much richer look into the boys' personalities as they explore the attractions of London and learn life lessons from their grandmother along the way. Narrated by Syrk, the book shows the reader what the wonders of England's capital city might look like through the eyes of young children.
Like the first book, this volume includes several family photos that correspond with points made in the text, giving it the feel of both a travelogue and a personal journal. This latter level of intimacy may be what will appeal most to the reader.
