Tanya, still hurting from Brad's terse fax, leaves Toronto for a two-week vacation at a condo in Sarasota, Florida. Although, Tanya's heart is set on her fiancé, Tanya is swept up in a love jaunt with Sven, a strikingly attractive and enticing man. Likewise Brad, who is unaware of where Tanya is in Florida and is torn about their relationship, falls for Mitch, a tantalizing beauty while spending a few days at a ski lodge. When Brad cuts his vacation short to attend a work conference, he has no idea that the one person he least expects to meet is Tanya. Emotional tensions rise between the long-lost lovers. It's a matter of time whether they choose to reignite their flames of passion, or part ways for good.
A top teacher and outstanding Canadian educator, Dee Disheau's accolades precede her. Yet earmarked as "the author of several short stories and educational publications," there is nothing surprising in Disheau's first novella. A simple lover's quarrel plot, Discheau's third-person narrative is laced with the all the common elements expected when lover's split only to become enamored with attractive substitutes. While the storyline offers nothing new under the sun, much credit goes to the way Discheau handles her well-developed yet tight cast and the tension developed between the various characters, particularly Tanya and Brad. The author also knows how to keep her story flowing by constantly alternating character scenes. Readers new to love stories may find Love in the Sand and the Snow rather appealing, while seasoned romance readers may be disappointed with the formula plot. Regardless, kudos goes to Disheau for her brave offering, which shows promise for future literary endeavors.
