This is a second installment in the saga of the dog Alofus and Lieutenant Dooley. Officer Dooley tries to locate a little boy called June Bug and return him to his grandmother, Mrs. Nuttingham. Since she doesn't know where her grandson is, officer Dooley takes matters into his own hands to locate him. While investigating, he is arrested on trumped-up charges by his police chief, McClemens, who has some nefarious dealings with Money Mike, an influential criminal, who's wanted by the FBI. Everything turns for the worse, when officer Dooley is intercepted by Money Mike's men en route to jail and is missing. When he's finally found by his colleagues, he is beaten up badly and on the brink of death while Money Mike escapes. The whole Dooley family then shows up in the hospital, where the doctor tells them what can be done for Mr. Dooley.
This book is for the most part a criminal/police mystery. The dog Alofus is not present in this second installment. The author delivers the story in a movie script form, instead of in a regular novel form, and, while it makes the book interesting to read, it might be hard to follow for some readers. The main characters, like officer Dooley, his wife, and grandmother Nuttingham are well-fleshed out. The book has a strong religious undertone, with much emphasis is placed on it in the text. Overall, this is a good book for lovers of mysteries, criminal investigations, police action, and dramas.
