An unusual story that focuses on Latin American actress Turquoise Colmenares, Jbara’s book is part biography and part tips for coping with life. The book begins with an introduction which tells about Turquoise, her sisters, and her mother—all of whom are successful in their own professions. The book is then divided into eight acts:“Decay of People,” “Confessions of a Mask,” “Autumn & Winter,” and “Forbidden Colors.” The other acts include: “Air floating In Time,” “One Way Train,” “Laughter In The Dark,” and “Triumph,” followed by a section about the author.
The first act begins abruptly with a number of quotes from Turquoise regarding her acting career. It then goes into detail about her agent telling her she has to quit the movie she's been working on due to contract issues, and how she decides to continue to do this work as she feels it is the honorable thing to do. This results in her being banned from working in Argentina for the next four years, and we learn how she copes with this through perseverance. She often utilizes the book she's reading, Devastating, to help her deal with the loss of her profession and a serious health issue. She also focuses on God for her healing and learns valuable lessons along the way.
Jbara's short book takes us through quotes from Turquoise and her diary as well as from Devastating, dialogue with others, and narrative. It is a story of triumph and of God, family, friends, and love. While the message is valuable, the book lacks sufficient editing. However, for a quick, uplifting read, this book may be helpful to others who are struggling with their lives.
