My Angry Letters by Bonnie Zilinski Lulu
book review by Carolyn Davis
"If you have ever been so angry with a company that you wanted to send... a seething letter, this is the book for you."
Ever since playwright and author Jean Kerr wrote "Letters of Protest I Never Sent" in an autobiographical anthology, protest letter writing has been lifted to the level of art. Each of  Zilinski's letters addresses a particular point of protest with an organization (some are quite graphic–she attached a dead insect to one). Zilinski provides the texts, the responses when appropriate, and the outcomes. These are particularly entertaining in the situations that involve follow-up from one level to the next.
My Angry Letters, subtitled One person's attempt to bring back customer service with wit and humor one letter at a time, is a booster shot of assertiveness that is particularly refreshing these days. Anyone facing corporate dissension or evasiveness will learn valuable lessons here. The pages go by very fast; this book could have been twice as long without a hint of tedium.
Zilinski roots for the distressed consumer, and she is an advocate who is not only assertive, positive, and unafraid, but humorous. Her approach, like Kerr's, works repeatedly because she is not out for revenge. Zilinski commands attention to the humanity in a situation. Ultimately, it is this humane approach that gets results from corporate executives and hurrahs from readers. It is a valuable handbook for empowerment.
